About RFAC: Councils for Religious Freedom and Human Dignity

We founded the Religious Freedom Alliance Council in 2023 as a grassroots initiative dedicated to upholding the human dignity and constitutional rights of people of all faiths and beliefs. In just three years, that vision has grown rapidly—by 2025, Religious Freedom Alliances hosted 25 conferences nationwide and expanded into a strong national network with 34 active alliances across the country—and growing.

Meet The Team

Bill Benac

Chair of RFAC

Bill's life exemplifies an unwavering commitment to religious freedom and human dignity. He is a dedicated board member of several non-profits, including ICLRS and the DFW Alliance for Religious Freedom and Human Dignity in Dallas, TX. He also supports civic and constitutional education for high school youth through Founding Forward, teaching across the US.

As National Chairman of the Religious Freedom Alliance Council, Bill spearheads efforts to protect and promote this fundamental right nationwide. His compassion also extends globally as co-founder of Pathway India, an organization that has educated and rehabilitated tens of thousands of disadvantaged Indian youth.

Prior to his retirement, Bill held senior executive positions across global corporations and private equity. His extensive background includes bachelor's and MBA degrees from BYU, a JD from Pace University, and certifications as a CMA and CPA, alongside bar admissions in Connecticut and New York. Bill truly embodies a profound dedication to ensuring religious freedom and human dignity are upheld for all.

Hannah Smith

RFAC National Coordinator

Hannah Smith joined the International Center for Law and Religion Studies (ICLRS) in 2023 as Associate Director, bringing a lifetime of service dedicated to religious liberty.

Her connection with ICLRS began at its founding in 2000 as a law student, and later was asked to serve as Senior Fellow and then National Coordinator for the Religious Freedom Alliance Council. Hannah's legal service includes two U.S. Supreme Court clerkships for Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito, Jr., and a decade as Senior Counsel at Becket Law.

Her advocacy has earned numerous accolades, including BYU's Alumni Achievement Award and the James Madison Award. She has degrees from Princeton and BYU Law and has worked in D.C. law firms. Hannah has dedicated her career to protecting and advancing religious freedom for all.
